Move over, meat and potatoes — October 17 is National Pasta Day, and it’s time to twirl, slurp, and celebrate one of the world’s most beloved comfort foods. Whether you’re a spaghetti purist, a lasagna lover, or the kind of person who happily calls mac and cheese “pasta,” today is all about indulging in the carb-filled goodness that brings families together.
📜 A Little Pasta History
- Ancient roots: Pasta-like dishes date back thousands of years to the Greeks, Romans, and Chinese.
- Italy’s influence: By the Middle Ages, pasta was a staple in Italian kitchens, especially in Naples and Sicily.
- Across the ocean: Italian immigrants brought pasta to America in the late 19th century, and it quickly became part of the American table.
Fun fact: The average American eats 20 pounds of pasta per year!
🍴 Fun Ways to Celebrate National Pasta Day
- Cook your favorite pasta dish: From spaghetti and meatballs to fettuccine alfredo.
- Try a new shape: Ever had orecchiette, farfalle (bow-ties), or gemelli? Today’s the day.
- Go local: Visit an Italian restaurant in Huntersville, Cornelius, or Charlotte and order something new.
- Cook with family: Pasta is perfect for kids to help with — stirring, sprinkling cheese, and, of course, taste-testing.
- Share the love: Make a big batch and bring leftovers to friends or coworkers.
